Get your hands on a hardy, conical-shaped evergreen tree with beautiful dark green narrow leaves and light green highlights. The Brown Pine, also known as the Plum Pine, produces edible fruit and thrives in a range of soil types, especially those with good drainage. It's also resistant to salt spray, making it an excellent choice for coastal plantings. Just note that Brown Pines are dioecious, meaning male and female plants are separate, so it's best to plant them in groups of three for pollination purposes.
This tree has been unfortunately exploited for its beautiful timber, which has a straight grain with light growth rings. It has been used to make fine furniture, musical instruments, and wood turnings.
